There has been a great progress made in the development of researching and production of special type ceramic in the past twenty years in China. However, there is still a huge distance between developed countries and China in the production standard and industrialization in applications. Experts claim that the production value will reach 30 and 45 billion RMB respectively in 2010 and 2015.
The number of institutes, labs and enterprises which focus or work on special type ceramic has been over 300. Therein, units researching and producing functional ceramic take 63.6% and the rest works on structural ceramics. Chinese academy of sciences, Shanghai institute of silicates and Qinghua University play an important role in boosting the development of the filed. Special type ceramic is widely used in industrial machinery and equipments, fuel instrument, auto, textile, electromechanical industry, medical machinery and so on. Its application range will be expanded as the development of economy.
